Phentermine should be taken based on individual requirements, height and body mass. Typically the lowest dose is prescribed first. This medication is best taken on an empty stomach one-half hour before breakfast. The normal dosage is one tablet or capsule per day. The 8mg and 15mg dosages are sometimes dispensed as 2/3 tablets/capsules per day. This medication may cause sleeplessness, you should avoid taking a dose late in the day. Take this medication only as prescribed. Do not take it more often or longer than directed. This medication is used as an appetite suppressant. It is used in conjunction with an overall diet plan to reduce weight. This medication should be taken under medical supervision. Phentermine is rapidly absorbed after oral ingestion. Peak plasma levels occur within 1 to 3 hours, varying with the degree of physical activity and the amount of food in the stomach. Absorption is usually complete by 4 to 6 hours.
Sustained release preparations are available as resin-bound, rather than soluble salts. These compounds display reduced peak blood levels compared with standard amphetamine preparations, but total amount absorbed and time to peak levels remain similar.
