Phentermine and Birth Control or Breast Feeding
Phentermine is a very strong appetite suppressant. The side effects of phentermine, duromine, adipex and ionamin are well documented. Amongst the documented effects are:-
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Palpitation
  • Racing heart rate
  • Over stimulation
  • Heart tremor
  • Headache
Please ensure you review our side effects page which is here for a full list of possible side effects.

Nicotine is equally well documented as having detrimental effects on the circulation system. Vegetable derivatives like morphine, nicotine and cocaine are potent drugs. At high doses, nicotine can cause high blood pressure, distress in the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems, and an increase in susceptibility to seizures and hypothermia. Inhaled nicotine directly effects the brain and the circulatory system. Studies have shown that a smoker's first cigarette of the day can increase his or her heart rate by as much as 10 to 20 beats a minute. The full story about nicotine can be seen here.

It is logical that the nicotine and phentermine together may adversely effect your circulation and or increase your blood pressure. You are specifically reminded that you need to check your blood pressure regularly and stop taking this medication if it exceeds 140/90.

Smoking and losing weight
Almost universally you will find a link between smoking and weight loss. Theoretically smoking also stops the eating craving. Consequently many overweight people smoke. The combination is not great. The more you are overweight the less exercise you tend to do. Add nicotine into the mix and generally you are on a downward spiral healthwise. Many people smoke and take phentermine as the craving induced by nicotine and the supposed appetite suppression are hard to neglect or override. You should clearly understand the additional risk on your circulation system. Make sure you tell your doctor if you are a heavy smoker.

Quit Smoking
There are a number of well recognized methods of quitting smoking. These include Bupropion HCL.(Zyban) and Nicorette gum or skin patches. Zyban is a medicine that is now licensed in many countries to help stop smoking. There is no best buy for smokers who are trying to kick their habit. The weight of evidence suggests that smokers should set a date to stop, then do their best to quit completely from then on. This is a difficult strategy to adhere to, and additional treatments such as those outlined above provide support. More information about Zyban and or Nicorettes can be seen here.
