| Characteristics and properties of Phentermine |
Phentermine is a controlled substance (C-IV Pregnancy Category C ). Phentermine is classified as an antiobesity preparation or a centrally acting antiobesity product. It is not a diet product. It is essentially an appetite suppressant designed for short-term (a few weeks) in the treatment of obesity. In combination with dieting, exercise, and changes in eating habits phentermine and its derivatives can help patients lose weight. The effect is temporary and phentermine is generally used as a bridge until new eating habits are established. Appetite suppressants are not a substitute for proper diet. For maximum effects, this must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program.
Phentermine is a central nervous system stimulant. (Adrenergic or catecholaminergic drug.) A catecholanminergic drug increases brain levels of adrenaline and/or noradrenaline, your body's most stimulating neurotransmitters. Phentermine makes you stimulated and energized, thus reducing appetite, delaying time for food intake and increasing your metabolic rate.
There are two forms of "Phentermine":- Phentermine Hydrochloride and Phentermine resin. Phentermine hydrochloride is sold in the market under the brand names Phentermine, Adipex and Fastin. Phentermine resin is available under the brand name Ionamine. Adipex and Fastin are 30mg tablets that exert their effect for 10 to 12 hours. Ionamine is widely believed to have a longer duration, but a milder effect. Ionamine is generally more expensive than Phentermine.
